Founded in 397 AD, Mor Gabriel (Deyrulumur) is one of the oldest functioning Syriac Orthodox monasteries in the world and the metropolitan seat of Tur Abdin. With its mosaics, domed church and centuries-old gardens it is the spiritual heart of the region.
