Ancient City of Dara

Dara (Anastasiopolis), Eastern Rome's garrison city on the Sasanian frontier, is often called the "Ephesus of Mesopotamia" for its rock-cut cisterns, necropolis and city walls. The cathedral-sized underground cistern alone is worth the trip.

It combines easily with a Mardin day trip and takes about half a day.
